Völkl Yumi review 2019

PROSKILAB™ reviewers' comments

Völkl has a strong reputation for making great all-mountain skis. The brand has been at the forefront of the market for several years with products that have become benchmarks, like the Mantra or the Kendo in the men’s range.

Unlike the brand's best selling men’s models, which are geared more towards performance, the Yumi is extremely user-friendly.

The ski is very comfortable on groomed slopes. Turn initiation is easy. It is stable, grippy, and has good rebound at the end of the turn. It is a lively ski and a total blast to ski on.

More of an all-rounder than a true all-mountain ski, it shows its limitations off-piste. The testers were disappointed with the narrow waist (84 mm) which reduces floatation in powder.

An excellent all-round ski (85% frontside/15% off piste), the Yumi is a great choice for any intermediate to advanced female skiers who are looking for a fun easy frontside ski that is good in all snow conditions, and who want to occasionally go off-piste when the conditions are right.

Review: Pros

  • Good frontside performance
  • User-friendly
  • Playful
  • Solid, predictable, confidence-inspiring

Review: Cons

  • Mediocre off-piste performance

Manufacturer's remarks

The Yumi is a ski that will appeal to a wide range of skiers, from beginner to advanced female skiers. It is just as fun on the groomers as it in powder! It is 84 mm underfoot and has a titanal band in the center of the ski. This band is very thin, making the ski smoother and more responsive without adding extra weight. The rocker in the tip lets the ski float more easily. Given its lightness, it can also be mounted with a freeskiing binding (Squire, Griffon…) or with a pin binding like the Marker Kingpin, for example.
