Kästle RX12 GS review 2019

PROSKILAB™ reviewers' comments

The RX12 GS from Kästle is a very good ski that excels at carving. It is really easy and fun to create big edge angles on this ski.

However, it does not fare as well in a Giant Slalom race course. The ski's radius is too short for GS turns. The flex is also not stiff enough and consequently performance suffers. When pushed, i.e., at high speeds on hard snow, it shows its limitations. Turn quality deteriorates and edge grip becomes less precise.

The RX12 GS is a good lively ski, but despite its "GS" label, it is not specialized or technical enough for this category where we find more race-inspired skis. It is still a very good ski and would have done well in the "Carvers" category. We recommend it for strong intermediates and advanced skiers who want a dynamic but not overpowering ski, and who are looking for a ski that is versatile and extremely proficient at carving to help them improve their skiing.

Review: Pros

  • User-friendly, accessible
  • Good overall performance, except at high speeds
  • Easy to carve, capable of creating big edge angles
  • Quick edge to edge
  • Smooth

Review: Cons

  • Too soft for this category
  • Mediocre performance
  • The radius (16 m) is too short for a giant slalom ski
